Sewn is a small, invitation-only writing studio. It is built to keep your writing private. This page says what Sewn holds for you, why, and what it never does.

Who runs Sewn

Sewn is a small service, and every account comes from a personal invitation. For anything on this page, write to support@sewn.ink.

What Sewn Holds for you

  • Your account. A username, and a password stored only as a salted hash. If you sign in with Google, Sewn keeps your Google account's ID and email address so it can recognize you next time.
  • Your writing. Books, chapters, drafts and their history, characters, images, Inbox items, settings, and the voice recordings you make. Each account's writing is kept in its own space, apart from every other account's.
  • Sessions. One cookie, sewn_session, keeps you signed in. It ends after 30 days without a visit, or 90 days regardless. Sewn sets no other cookies.
  • A little security logging. Failed sign-ins are counted by network address for a few minutes to slow down guessing.

What Sewn never does

  • It doesn't sell or rent your information, and it never shares your writing. Your email address goes only to the services named below, and only as far as they need it to do their job.
  • It doesn't send your writing or your voice to an outside AI service. Transcription, read-aloud voices and the language model are run by Sewn itself.
  • It doesn't use your writing to train any model.
  • It has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. This site runs no scripts at all.

Google sign-in and Google Drive

If you choose to sign in with Google, Sewn asks Google only for your account ID and your email address, and uses them only to sign you in.

If you choose to connect Google Drive, Sewn can create files in your Drive and see only the files it created itself. It can't see anything else in your Drive. It uploads only the files you pick, and only when you press publish. You can disconnect Drive in Settings at any time, which also revokes Sewn's access with Google.

Sewn's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is never transferred to others, never used for advertising, and never used to train AI models.

Others involved

  • Cloudflare carries the connection between your device and Sewn, and serves this site. Like any network provider, it sees your network address and handles the traffic in transit. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Resend sends Sewn's email: the message that confirms your address and, only if you asked for it, news about Sewn. It holds your email address and whether you asked for news, and nothing you've written. See Resend's privacy policy.
  • Google, only if you use Google sign-in or Drive, as described above.

Backups are copies of the same data, kept under Sewn's control.

Keeping and deleting

Your writing is kept until you delete it or your account is closed. You can export your books at any time. To see what Sewn holds about you, correct it, or have your account and everything in it deleted, write to support@sewn.ink. Deletion is done within 30 days, and backups that include the data are overwritten as they age out.

Security

Connections use HTTPS. Passwords and session tokens are stored hashed. Accounts are by invitation. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Children

Sewn isn't meant for anyone under 13, and accounts aren't offered to them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything significant is told to account holders directly.
